Memory Pins

Got a pin? Four steps.

  1. 01

    Scan the QR

    Point any phone camera at the pin's QR code. Its page opens in your browser — nothing to type, nothing to install.

  2. 02

    Make it yours

    Sign in or create a free account, then tap "Claim this pin". Only you can fill a blank pin, and it stays on your account.

  3. 03

    Add the story

    Pick the place, the dates, your photos, videos and words. Drag photos into order and choose who can see each one.

  4. 04

    Relive it

    Press the pin into your map. Anyone who scans it later sees the trip — and you can add a new visit anytime.

Where to pin

Any map you love will do.

  • Cork push-pin map

    The classic. Pins press straight in and come out cleanly.

  • Framed canvas or linen map

    Choose one with a foam or cork backing at least 1 cm deep.

  • Shadow box

    Pin a single trip with tickets and keepsakes beside it.

  • Scrapbook or album

    Use a flat-back pin on the cover or spine of a trip album.

Scan tips

Tiny code, shiny metal? Try this.

  1. Hold your phone 5–10 cm away, then slowly move closer until the code is sharp.
  2. Tilt the phone slightly so ceiling lights don't reflect off the pin.
  3. Tap the pin on your screen to focus. Turn on the torch in a dim room.
  4. Still stuck? Zoom in 2× in your camera app — it helps with the smallest pins.

Questions

Do I need an app?
No. Your phone's normal camera opens the pin's page in your browser. A dedicated app is coming in the future — until then, add Places & Stories to your home screen from your browser menu and it opens like an app.
Is there a code I need to type in?
No. Every pin has its own QR code — just scan it. If the pin is blank, you'll be asked if you want to claim it to your account.
Can I start without a pin?
Yes. Make a free account and drop places straight onto your map. If you get a pin later, you can attach it to a place you've already made.
Can one pin hold more than one trip?
Yes. Go back to New York every year? Each visit becomes its own story on the same pin, with its own dates and photos. The newest opens first.
Who can see my memories?
You choose for each photo: Everyone, anyone with the pin or link, just your Circles (like Family or Friends), or only you.
Can I give a pin to someone else?
Yes. Send it from your pin's settings — the other person accepts, and the pin and its story move to their account.
